HOW TO BOOK A SUP SESSION
Private Stand Up Paddle Board Experiences are arranged through our online booking system. Select your ideal activity, time and date and simply book online. The minimum age for SUP with an instructor at Talkin Tarn is 12 years and the maximum group size for online booking is 8 participants. There are fixed price options for 1-2 participants, 3-6 participants and the option to add up to 2 more participants (8 in total) via the online calendar. Please get in touch for larger groups.
Your session will be private for your group. These sessions are ideal for families and small groups, gifts and outdoor experiences for fun. Ideal for a staycation in Cumbria or local day out.
We also arrange open SUP sessions during the warmer seasons. Individual places are available to book on these, pre-scheduled events. Open sessions are shared with other participants.
Please contact us for larger group sessions.
When boat hire is open (11am-4pm weekends and school holidays) we may have the capacity to offer SUP to book on the day. Last minute sessions might not always be available but please feel free to give us a call or pop down and ask us on the day if we have any space. You'll need a change of clothes (or swimwear for under a wetsuit) and shoes that you are happy to get wet.

No pre-booking available for SUP hire.
SUP Hire includes:
- Wetsuit
- Buoyancy Aid
- Use of changing rooms
Remember to bring:
- Footwear (water shoes or old trainers required – bare foot paddling NOT permitted)
- Towel
- Swimwear for under the wetsuit OR a change of clothes
We have a small stock of water shoes available to buy at £10 per pair
The minimum age for SUP hire is 16 years.
Summon assistance by shouting and waving if you require help.
You should be confident in the water wearing a buoyancy aid.
Launch Permits
Please see us during opening hours to arrange your launch permit. See the tea room when we are closed. There is no launch out of hours.
Buoyancy aids must be worn and you are responsible for your own safety, as per the permit. Permits are issued on behalf of Cumberland Council.
If you do not have a buoyancy aid, these may be hired from us at Talkin Adventures during usual opening hours (£8 per buoyancy aid)
You will have access to showers and changing rooms.
PADDLEBOARDING LESSONS AND SESSIONS AS A GIFT
To give this as a gift, either book a session using our online system, or follow this link to purchase a digital gift voucher so that the recipient can select their own date. You will be able to select your own personalised booking code for the recipient and we'll email your voucher to you within 24 hours.
There is no additional cost to this and the code will be valid for any session until the end of 2027.

CUMBRIA WEATHER
The weather—it happens! We’ll continue to run our activities in most weather conditions; the rain won’t stop us getting wet!
Occasionally, conditions may make it unsafe to head out onto the water—for example, strong winds or thunder and lightning. If the forecast is looking particularly bad, we’ll usually contact you to discuss the options.
We may suggest waiting to see what conditions are like on the day, rearranging your session or, where appropriate, providing a refund. You can read our Terms and Conditions here.
SUP AT TALKIN TARN, CUMBRIA’S NORTHERNMOST TARN
Try Stand Up Paddle Boarding lessons with Talkin Adventures. Talkin Tarn is one of Cumbria's best kept flat-water secrets and it's not far from the Lake District.
Book a SUP board session to enjoy the perfect intro to stand up paddle boarding. Using high quality, inflatable paddle boards, you will learn the basics and quickly head out onto the water. You will be standing up in no time at all on our very stable boards. You'll soon discover why this is one of the fastest growing water sports in the great outdoors.
Why not make a full day of it? Stand up paddleboard lessons go well with kayaking, canoeing or a good long stroll around the Talkin area. There is the sandstone gorge of Gelt Woods to explore or for the more energetic a walk up Talkin Fell or the northern Pennine tops: which are just a stone's throw away!
If you are able to visit Carlisle, the northern half of Cumbria or Hadrian's Wall country, we are a very convenient venue for outdoor activities, with fabulous facilities.
