Stand Up Paddle Boarding in Cumbria

Stand Up Paddle Boarding is such a fun activity. We introduced SUP at Talkin Tarn in Cumbria early in 2019 and it has been enjoyed by all ages since. Following some careful consideration and experience, we decided to set the minimum age for our organised activity sessions at 10 years.

Using inflatable stand up paddle boards, participants are quickly cruising around the lake as they learn this new activity. For some it takes a little while to practice on their knees, whilst others are almost standing up straight away. One of the great things about paddle boarding is that you can take it at your own pace!

One of the best things about Stand Up Paddle Boarding is that if you do fall in, then you just climb back on again with no worries about emptying water or becoming trapped in a boat.

Being just outside of the Lake District and a short drive from Carlisle and the M6, Talkin Tarn is the ideal place to try SUP. This relatively small Tarn is the perfect size to make the most of your time on the water, whilst being close to amenities, changing rooms and the car park. Close proximity to the changing rooms and inviting Tea Rooms often gives a boost to peoples' confidence.

Our fun taster sessions at Talkin Tarn give a great introduction to this exciting new sport. Booking is easy through our online booking system. We arrange open sessions on set dates through the warmer months. By limiting the places on these sessions, we can ensure that every member of the small group can be fully involved and make the most of time with our experienced instructor - this is also a big reason behind the minimum age. At the start of your SUP lesson, we will discuss the key points of paddle boarding before embarking on your adventure. These sessions last for around 90 minutes during which time you'll learn new skills, have a great time and take part in a paddle board journey around the beautiful Talkin Tarn.

Private sessions can be arranged for up to six participants at a time, with more flexibility on days, times and ages. We still currently need an adult to accompany children on the water and join in with the fun. This is great for Hen Parties, Birthday Parties or Family Groups.

We can also arrange the hire of stand up paddle boards by the day, for you to have an adventure in the Lake District. Stand Up Paddle Board Hire costs £50 per day including a paddle and buoyancy aid. Collection is from Talkin Tarn or Carlisle. We would include the cost of a launch permit at Talkin Tarn in this price. Please note that if you hire a paddle board through us, you will be responsible for your own actions and use.
